Pieces of Thankfulness

Thanksgiving Holiday Thankfulness At Lytle EAP!

This time of year we focus on being thankful but often times, we come up with the same list.   Not that we aren’t grateful, but we may miss some things until we hear what others are thankful for.  Recently, I informally surveyed our employees to get an idea of what they are thankful for this year.

It’s like a patchwork quilt. In and of itself there is nothing special about each patch, often the pieces are old and faded, although they may bring a memory to mind. But when you see the whole quilt, then it is a beautiful piece of work because of how each piece pulls beauty out of the others nearby.

So, from our team at Lytle EAP Partners, what are we thankful for? First of all the familiar and big items were the same across the board: Family, work, freedom, and health. These are big, these are wonderful, but let’s look beyond those broad topics and take a look at some of the more unique patches of thankfulness that we offer:

  • My family recently totaled our car when we were hit by a deer and I am thankful that no one was hurt!
  • I am grateful for my job in that it challenges me to grow both personally and professionally.
  • I am thankful that I am physically able to take long walks in the outdoors, for exercise and to clear my mind. (when it is NOT below freezing!)
  • I am happy to see attention being given to humanizing the workplace via themes of kindness, empathy and compassion.
  • In the middle of a recent family medical emergency a ray of hope shone through on our darkest day.   That sense of hope helped us have something to look forward to!
  • I am thankful for grown children who say ‘I love you.”
  • I am grateful that I work with others who are serious about their work, but also fun to work with!
  • I am thankful that our children are now launched and happy adults.
  • I am grateful to work at a job where I can achieve a healthy work/life balance.
  • I am thankful that I am not homeless and that I have a beautiful home I share with my husband.
  • In a world that is exceedingly busy and quick to anger I am thankful for friends and family to keep me grounded.
  • My grandchildren, who love to snuggle, are one of my greatest joys.

And on the lighter side:

  • The office cookie exchange
  • Laughter
  • My hairdresser

So, what are the pieces of thankfulness in your quilt this year? Pull them altogether and enjoy the color and warmth of a thankful heart.
