When we think of giving a gift, it is often tangible—something we can hold on to. However, some of the most impactful gifts are not tangible at all—they’re experiences—and they’re often more meaningful and even life-changing, in the best way possible. Take the experience of wellness coaching for example. Sometimes a simple connection with the right expert, at the right time, can dramatically change the trajectory of one’s life.
Wellness Coaching In Action
Recently, an individual called in requesting wellness coaching with a straightforward but deep goal: “to be happier.” In the first session, I learned that the client was experiencing health concerns (diabetes and weight fluctuations), but these issues were exacerbated by a very difficult living situation with extended family that caused daily distress. Our wellness coaching sessions focused on personalized guidance, motivation, accountability, behavior change, improved self-efficacy, and stress management strategies. With a good foundational knowledge of diet and exercise, goals were set to move forward and prevent setbacks in his journey. Following our work together, the individual was empowered to change his living arrangement and is now successfully managing his diabetes and overall health—and achieving his ultimate goal of living happier.
What does a wellness coach do?
As a wellness coach, one of the greatest gifts of my job is watching someone transform through our work together. While each individual is unique, with their own stories, challenges, goals, and circumstances, we look at the whole person and partner to inspire positive change and growth. Our certified wellness coaches are health guides, mentors, and champions – all in one. They partner with each individual to positively influence lifestyle changes in line with personalized health and life goals.
What to expect in wellness coaching sessions?
The coach is there for support and provides information, with a focus on empowering clients to make positive lifestyle changes. Together, the coach and client will:
- Identify specific goals
- Create action plans
- Brainstorm solutions
- Troubleshoot obstacles
- Provide long-term techniques
