This is another state law issue. Many states require employers to give employees some time off to cast their ballots—and prohibit employers from disciplining employees who take time off for this purpose—but a number of restrictions apply. For example, some states give an employee the right to take time off only if the employee doesn’t have enough time to vote outside of work hours. Some states require employers to pay workers for this time; others do not. And a few states allow employers to require workers to give advance notice or provide proof that they actually voted to take advantage of these legal protections.
